whatever

long ago, in the days of livejournal, i used to post all the time. to be fair, it was usually some longwinded emo post or song lyrics but there was occasionally substance.

real substance.

like funny youtube shit.

this guy is freaking amazing. i didn’t know a classical guitar could sound like this.

Chucks

Day two of unseasonably warm weather (aka chucks-wearing weather) and my feet are already sore. I really don’t know how they used to play basketball in these.

Halloween Horror Films 2010

Every year around Halloween I go a little nuts about horror films. This year was no different, as I had a few different horror movies playing about every night in October. These are some of the ones I watched this year. Sure some of these aren’t “horror” but they are seasonal at least. 🙂

Trick ‘r Treat (2007)

Kill Theory (2009)

The Willies (1991)

Body Bags (1993)

Ernest Scared Stupid (1991)

The Monster Squad (1987)

Halloween Pumpkins!

Halloween is by far my favorite time of year… I’ve been checking off the seasonal stuff I’ve done so far. Basically, if something is made of pumpkins, I will buy it. Pumpkin coffee creamer. Pumpkin K-cups. I’ve made a bunch of pumpkin pies. I made this amazing pumpkin pie cheesecake. I tried to get the Pumpkin Milkshake at McDonald’s but the machine was broken.

We carved jack-o-lanterns two nights ago. I made a scary face, my girlfriend made a castle.

Basically I love this time of year. And pumpkins.

Chains

An invisible tether of phantom necessity holds me to it. Like a chain around my ankle, but here I grasp it. Clutch it. Store it. In a pocket, on a desk. It weighs me down, yet I drag it, I bear it, on and on forever, wherever I go. It connects me. Yet because of it I feel the disconnect. More apparent than real. Felt. Breathed. Drumming. Echoing, louder and louder in the vast emptiness that perhaps isn’t even there. The opportunities for connection becoming vast bridges that seem broken, their distant reaches a long past, faint, frizzled memory. Yet only a second from renewal, the spaces between removed.. contact, connection. The chain binds me to this life. The burden I carry.

Thursday in Philly on Friday

Last Friday I took a trip to Philadelphia with my friend to see Thursday at the Trocadero. This was my first trip to Philly for a concert since probably 2004 when I went to see Dashboard Confessional, Thrice and The Get Up Kids in the Spectrum.

I have, however, been going to Philly a little more often lately for Union soccer, so I’m more comfortable with the city than I’ve ever been. But since my car was being whacky, my friend drove. We got down there and parked in a shady parking garage and went over to the venue. I gotta say, the Troc is a cool place.

It’s a really old building, that, despite being the setting of countless punk and metal shows, manages to hang onto the styling of its roots. There are decorative facades surrounding the large, high ceiling stage, with a balcony area that serves as the 21 and over drinking area. The crowd was just about the perfect size, with it not at all feeling empty, and yet not too crowded that you felt stifled.

The opening acts were forgettable but I really did enjoy Thursday. They mixed up some of their really old stuff in with some newer material, and proved to me that they can still hang with the best in this genre that they helped define over a decade ago.

Later that night I met up with some friends who live in the city and we went to a bar called Nodding Head Brewery, which served a bunch of microbrews, including this one hefeweizen that included some green Woodruff syrup. I personally was not a fan of that, but all the girls seemed to go nuts over it. I tried the Grogg as well as the 60 Shilling, and both were excellent.

The next day we decided to walk around and do the touristy things that nobody from the city ever does. This included going over to Love Park, as well as to the art museum to see the Rocky steps.

It was a fun weekend. 🙂

Summer Explosion Movies

There are 3 movies coming out this summer with the same basic plot. A good band of commandos vs a bad band of commandos. Nothing original, but really, who watches these movies for original plots? NOBODY! So which of these films will be The Prestige and which will be The Illusionist?

The Losers

The A-Team

The Expendibles

Personally, I won’t bet against the star power of The Expendibles, but the other two movies don’t look like slouches either. Should be a fun (and loud) summer!
